Multiple sclerosis

Definite diagnosis of at least one of the following:

The diagnosis of multiple sclerosis must be made by a specialist.

1. 2 or more separate clinical attacks, confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the nervous system, showing multiple lesions of demyelination;
2. well-defined neurological abnormalities lasting more than 6 months, confirmed by MRI imaging of the nervous system, showing multiple lesions of demyelination;
3. a single attack, confirmed by repeated MRI imaging of the nervous system, which shows multiple lesions of demyelination which have developed at intervals at least one month apart.

Multiple sclerosis is a neurological disease difficult to diagnose. In order to rule out all other possibilities, numerous tests are usually performed to confirm the diagnosis. This disease of the brain and the spinal cord is characterized by a slow progression which occurs in episodes. The precise diagnosis must be confirmed by recognized tests. Modern imaging techniques include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
