SOLO Healthcare covers unexpected or ongoing healthcare costs.
This individual insurance plan offers the same type of coverage that group insurance plans do and complements provincial health coverage plans.
This versatile product can be tailored to every need or budget.
Eligibility requirements
- For the insured and the spouse: be between the ages of 18 to 64
- For the children, if applicable: be between the ages of 0 to 20
- Satisfy medical underwriting criteria
- Be covered by a provincial health insurance plan
Premiums
SOLO Healthcare annual premiums vary as per the following factors:
- The insured's age:
Annual premiums vary for each age group.
- Ages 18 to 44 (In Ontario, premium also changes at age 25)
- Ages 45 to 54
- Ages 55 to 59
- Ages 60 to 64
- External factors:
- The premium also varies when the insured moves to a different province because the coverage is complimentary to the provincial health insurance plan and costs vary by province.
- Desjardins Insurance could review premiums based on recurring factors, such as inflation; legislative changes and changes to provincial health plans; medical progress which allows for the diagnostic of previously undetected conditions; technological advances increase the cost of equipment and medical supplies; the increased use of services such as physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy and other healthcare professionals, etc.
Coverage options
- Individual: for the principal insured
- Couple: for the principal insured and his spouse
- Family: for the principal insured, his spouse and their children
- Single-parent: for the principal insured and his children
Start of coverage
A
SOLO Health insurance policy can only be issued on the 1 or 15 of the month, depending on the day the insurance application is accepted.

End of coverage
The contract terminates on the earliest of the following dates:
- The date on which the principal insured turns 70
- The date on which the principal insured dies or
- The date on which the policyholder sends a written cancellation request to the insurer’s head office
Spouse’s coverage ends on the first of the following dates:
- Spouse’s 70th birthday
- Principal insured’s 70th birthday
The children’s coverage ends on the first of the following dates:
- Children’s 26th birthday
- Principal insured’s 70th birthday
Note: Upon termination of coverage, the spouse and children may continue to be covered in their name on another contract without providing new proof of good health.
Multi-coverage discount
The client receives a premium discount of 5% on their SOLO Healthcare policy when they purchase it along with any life or health insurance product with an annual premium of $400 or more.
