Cerebrovascular accident - CVA (stroke)

An obstruction to blood flow to a part of the brain causing nerve cell degeneration which leads to a permanent neurological deficit of varying degrees.

  • Age at diagnosis and current age
  • Number of episodes
  • Cause
  • Sequelae
  • Tobacco use
  • Cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Other risk factors (for example, diabetes, coronary heart disease, depression, epilepsy)

Within 6 months of the episode: declined
More than 6 months since the episode:
  • Age under 40 at the time of application
rated +175 minimum or declined
  • Age 40 or more at the time of application
rated +50 minimum or declined
  • Caused by taking an oral contraceptive
rated +50, standard possible after 5 years if recovery complete and no risk factors
Multiple episodes
Last episode in the past year: declined
Then:
  • Age under 40 at the time of application
rated +175 minimum or declined
  • Age 40 or more at the time of application
rated +50 minimum or declined
